Hey there! I'm Alex Sevier Aitken, and I'm passionate about helping businesses navigate the ever-changing world of digital marketing. My journey began at Hofstra University, where I earned my Bachelors degree in Public Relations in 2009.
Q: How did your journey in marketing begin?
Alex: I started my career in the music industry, working at Rogers & Cowan and MWW Group—two powerhouse agencies known for their work with top-tier artists and entertainment brands. It was an incredible crash course in public relations, branding, and the fast-paced world of music marketing. I worked alongside some of the biggest names in the industry, helping to shape their public image, launch album campaigns, and build meaningful fan connections. It was high-energy, high-stakes, and I loved every second of it.
After my time in music, I transitioned into beauty and fashion, joining 5W PR and later Lippe Taylor. Working with iconic beauty and fashion brands was a whole new challenge—one that taught me how to craft compelling brand stories, manage influencer relations, and execute high-impact product launches. This shift broadened my perspective and refined my ability to develop marketing strategies that blend creativity with analytics, ensuring brands stay relevant and resonate with their audiences.
Q: What did you take from that experience into your current work?
Alex: I learned how to think on my feet, pivot quickly, and create strategies that actually move the needle. In music, timing is everything. You have to know how to create buzz, maximize visibility, and make sure a brand or artist stands out in a crowded space. That same principle applies to every business I work with today—whether it's a small startup or a well-established company looking to refine its marketing strategy.
The beauty and fashion industries taught me the importance of storytelling, brand loyalty, and the power of social influence. Whether launching a new product or repositioning an existing brand, I learned how to craft strategies that drive engagement, build credibility, and deliver real results.
Q: What led you to start City Girl Strategy?
Alex: After working in big agencies and with global brands, I realized that a lot of businesses—especially small and mid-sized ones—were wasting money on marketing that didn’t actually work for them. They were following trends without a strategy, and I wanted to change that. So, I founded City Girl Strategy to bring a no-nonsense, results-driven approach to digital marketing. My team and I focus on cutting through the noise and helping businesses attract, engage, and convert their ideal audience without wasting time or money.

Alex: I love working with brands that are ready to shake things up—businesses that are tired of one-size-fits-all solutions and want a strategy that’s actually tailored to them. Alex: I believe in lifelong learning and staying ahead of the curve in digital marketing. To deepen my expertise, I earned my Digital Marketing Certificate from LSU and have multiple industry certifications, including Google Analytics, Google Ads, HubSpot Email Marketing, and HubSpot Inbound Marketing. Additionally, I completed the Kellogg Executive Management Accredited Marketing Leadership Program, which refined my skills in strategic marketing leadership and high-level business growth strategies.
